About the event

The study of propaganda has long been considered key in assessing how a regime can or cannot be categorized as totalitarian. It also allows us to grasp the specificities of different totalitarianisms and the ideological myths on which they are based.

Perceiving the Spanish Civil War as a threat to the Portuguese Estado Novo, Salazar’s propaganda machine will reactivate such myths in unique ways, reframing Portugal’s self-representation in the changing Iberian context.

This talk will be given in English and will be followed by a Q&A.
