About the event

The 70th Annual Conference of the Association of Hispanists of Great Britain and Ireland will this year be hosted by the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures and the Cervantes Chair at The University of Edinburgh. It will comprise of two in-person days at the University of Edinburgh and one day fully online.

The conference programme will be wide-reaching and expansive, with highlights including:

  • Three keynote speakers: Gustavo Herrera Taboada (University of Edinburgh), Catherine Boyle (King’s College London) and Jesse Barker (University of Aberdeen)
  • Prestigious guest of honour such as Luis García Montero (Director of the Cervantes Institute), María José Solano (Spanish writer) and Yvette Bürki (Universität Bern)
  • 40 parallel sessions and roundtable discussions with more than 130 academic papers on different aspects of research relating to Iberian and Latin American Studies: language, teaching and learning, translation, literature, film and visual studies, cultural studies, politics, etc.
  • A Spanish classical music concert by Ricardo Gosalbo & Jorge Navarro organised by the Cervantes Chair at The University of Edinburgh.
