Connecting Memories - First Annual Symposium After an incredible response to the Call for Papers, the Connecting Memories research initiative is delighted to invite postgraduate students, early career researchers and academics to participate in what is set to be a fascinating and productive one-day symposium on interdisciplinary perspectives relating to memory. The main objectives of the symposium are to generate dialogue and stimulate new ideas as well as encourage a sense of community among scholars working on memory in the UK, especially in Scotland and the North of England. At the heart of the event will be two roundtable discussions, incorporating more than ten ‘micro-presentations’. The symposium will be rounded off by a keynote lecture by Professor Andrew Hoskins, Interdisciplinary Research Professor at the University of Glasgow, founding Editor-in-Chief of the Sage journal of ‘Memory Studies’, and founding Co-Editor of the Palgrave Macmillan book series ‘Memory Studies’. There will be ample networking opportunities during the coffee and lunch breaks, as well as during the wine reception. The event is free of charge and all are welcome to attend. Snacks, drinks and lunch will be provided. Further details on the Connecting Memories website Programme Details about the roundtables and the keynote lecture, as well as a timetable for the day, are provided in the symposium programme: Document Connecting Memories Symposium - programme (836.05 KB / PDF) About the Connecting Memories research initiative Connecting Memories is a collaborative interdisciplinary research initiative that sets out to open up a space for presently unconnected scholars working on memory to interact, to share their perspectives and reflections on what memory means in the context of their research. Founded by Paul Armstrong Leworthy and Bárbara Fernández Melleda (PhD candidates in Comparative Literature and Hispanic Studies respectively), the Connecting Memories group is based in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LLC) at the University of Edinburgh. The group's objective is to connect scholars working on memory, not only from across the School but also across the University, and from further afield too. Having launched in November 2017, the group's first keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Gustavo San Román (University of St Andrews) in December 2017 and its second by Professor Richard Morris (University of Edinburgh) in April 2018.
