Title - Using Library Heritage Collections to Enhance Your Research in DELC

About the event

The University of Edinburgh libraries are home to a vast array of archives, special collections and heritage material across a wide range of languages, literatures and cultures, but not all of us are aware of how to utilise them effectively.

The School of Scottish Studies Archives (SSSA), which showcases Scotland’s traditional culture, is also particularly relevant for researchers working within the area of minority languages, music, intermediality, storytelling, folklore, and so much more. Come to discover them and, hopefully, be inspired!

The School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures's very own Academic Support Librarian, Robert O'Brien, will explain how we can make the most of these resources and provide some strategies for incorporating heritage material into our research, as well as offer an overview of the varied databases and journals available within DELC’s research areas.

Kirsty Stewart, resident SSSA archivist, will then provide more detail and practical advice about working with local heritage collections, including an overview of what’s available in the SSSA. For those eager to explore hands-on, there will be a workshop after the talk from around 3.30pm, where you will have the chance to discover a range of manuscripts and special collections on offer in the School of Scottish Studies.

How to attend

This event is open to all, and free to attend. There are two parts: firstly, a talk from Robert and Kirsty; secondly, a hands-on workshop. You can book your place for the talk and/or the workshop separately via Eventbrite.

About the seminar series

The DELC Research Seminar Series (DRSS) encourages collaboration and coproduction between staff and students across European Languages and Cultures and beyond.

Entry is free and everyone is welcome.

Are you interested in studying European Languages and Cultures?

Our interdisciplinary environment brings together specialists in nine European languages, and the many cultures worldwide in which they're spoken, with experts in film, literature, theatre, translation and intermediality. Working with colleagues elsewhere in LLC, and across the wider University, we are able to support research which crosses boundaries between disciplines and/or languages.
