About the event

We are thrilled to announce the 1st Open Forum organized by CONNECTS-UK, taking place at the University of Edinburgh.

The theme of this inaugural forum is “Democratic Backsliding”, with a focus on misinformation, the global influence of social media, and trust in science. This event marks the beginning of a series of six forums to be held across the UK, aiming to foster collaboration between leading EU researchers and UK-based academics, highlight their achievements, and share valuable insights with both expert and general audiences.

This first forum will feature an esteemed panel of speakers from the UK and the EU, including Zsolt Boda, Director General of the HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences (Hungary), as our keynote speaker, alongside Joerg Friedrichs (University of Oxford) and Mette Wiggen (University of Leeds), among others.

This event is proudly supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the UK, in collaboration with colleagues from the Department of European Languages and Cultures, working in Spanish and Dutch studies.

A networking lunch will be served at 1pm before the event begins.

How to attend

This forum is open to all, and free to attend. There are a limited number of spaces available, however, so you should register your interest via CONNECTS-UK's website.

Are you interested in studying European Languages and Cultures?

Our interdisciplinary environment brings together specialists in nine European languages, and the many cultures worldwide in which they're spoken, with experts in film, literature, theatre, translation and intermediality.

Working with colleagues elsewhere in LLC, and across the wider University, we are able to support research which crosses boundaries between disciplines and languages.
