Her talk will focus on issues of language and gender and on the debates they have generated in Italy over the past years: from linguistic sexism to the role and visibility of women, and then to the representation of non-binary identities. Recent suggestions in Italian to move beyond the overextended masculine to address mixed-gender groups and non-binary people will be analysed (from the asterisk to the schwa), in parallel with similar attempts made in other languages. The talk will be delivered in English. About Vera Gheno Vera Gheno is a sociolinguist and a translator from Hungarian. She has collaborated with the Accademia della Crusca for twenty years and Zanichelli for four years.
