As the yearly celebration of innovation enters its flagship week, we take a look at the range of events involving our staff and students. Edinburgh University Literature Conference 2018 Monday 19th February 2018 Now in its fourth year, this is the only conference of its kind for undergraduate students in literary studies to come together and present their original research. Entirely organised, led and peer-reviewed by undergraduate students at the University of Edinburgh, it incorporates the Charity McAdams Essay Prize. The Postmodern Occult: A Witchcraft Symposium Monday 19th February 2018 Drop-in, or stay all day, to listen to presentations about the role of witchcraft in the postmodern world in an event organised by the Postmodern Occult, a community involving a number of students on our MSc in Book History and Material Culture programme. Postmodern Witchcraft: a Conversation with Ione Gamble and Charlotte-Rose Millar Monday 19th February 2018 Another event from the Postmodern Occult, this evening discussion with visiting speakers Ione Gamble and Dr Charlotte-Rose Millar will explore why there is an occult renaissance happening now, how it relates to independent publishing (zine culture) and social media, and what the implications are for women, people of colour, and the queer community. 50 GS Second Issue Magazine Launch Monday 19th February 2018 Launched last year by students on our Creative Writing MSc programme, 50 gs is back with a brand new issue. Celebrate its release with guest speakers, readings from the magazine and much more at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. Altar-in-a-Box: A Witchy Workshop Tuesday 20th February 2018 Join the Postmodern Occult for their third Festival of Creative Learning event. As well as taking part in a great discussion, you'll make an "Altar-in-a-Box", a small, diorama-like altar that is portable, functional and very aesthetically pleasing! Theatre Writing & Directing Master Class with Hannah Khalil and Chris White Tuesday 20th February 2018 A practical masterclass on how to develop a new work for the stage from script to performance with award-winning playwright Hannah Khalil and director and dramaturg Chris White. Broad City + Witchy Music Videos: A Screening and Discussion Tuesday 20th February 2018 Join the Postmodern Occult for a viewing of the episode "Witches" from season 4 of Broad City and a selection of recent witchy music videos from Beyoncé, Princess Nokia, and Grimes, among others. Spell Zines: A Witchy Workshop Tuesday 20th February 2018 For their last event of the Festival of Creative Learning 2018, the Postmodern Occult, and the Edinburgh Zine Library, invite you to join them for a very special zine making workshop. Creative Writing: Found Poetry and the Act of Borrowing Tuesday 20th February 2018 A two-hour workshop open to students and staff interested in developing their creative writing skills in a relaxed, friendly environment. Participants will use a variety of prompts based around the theme of found poetry and borrowing. Human Library: Don't Judge a Book by its Cover! Tuesday 20th February 2018 The Human Library is an international movement where real people are on loan to readers to build a positive framework for conversations and difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered. LLC Blethers 2018 Thursday 22nd February 2018 A night of fast-talking, good-eating and fun-having, LLC Blethers is a chance to hang out with fellow members of LLC away from your books.
