Hillfire Press at the Book Fringe

In brief

Date - 13 August 2023

Venue - Typewronger Books

Festival - Book Fringe

About the event

Short fiction and poetry read by some of the fabulous Hillfire Press authors! With the line-up yet to be finalised, we already know that some of our international friends will be joining the Edinburgh-based crowd. You might hear about the pagoda that inspired the cover art, a hedge with contrary inhibitants, childhood magic or an ultra-capitalist, gamified future - whatever doesn't end up covered during the event, you can read about in Volume 2!

Hillfire Press is a collective of authors, many of whom are LLC students and Creative Writing MSc graduates from 2019-20, who publish an annual anthology of short writings (2000 words and less). While it has its origins in Edinburgh, its members are now scattered across continents. It was originally founded by Lena Krauss, a Creative Writing MSc alumna and current Creative Writing PhD candidate.

How to attend

This event is free to attend and open to all. No registration is necessary.

Are you interested in English Literature at Edinburgh?

We offer a wide range of undergraduate programmes, taught masters, and research degrees, including a Masters by Research and a PhD. As an undergraduate, you will read works of literature written in English from around the world, and encounter a range of ideas about the nature and purpose of literary study.

Our courses explore the relationship between literary texts and the construction of national, international and imperial cultures. Working with colleagues in LLC and across the wider University, we are able to support postgraduate research which crosses boundaries between languages and disciplines.
