This free, online seminar features a creative conversation about writing and directing new work in UK with award-winning and leading UK theatre artists Tanika Gupta and Pooja Ghai.

The discussion will centre around the work "Lions and Tigers", produced at the Sam Wannaker Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Globe in 2017. 

About the speakers

Pooja Ghai 

Pooja Ghai is an award-winning director and Artistic Director of Tamasha Theatre Company, one of the UK’s leading touring theatre companies.

She was Associate Director of Theatre Royal Stratford East from 2015 to 2018 and has directed productions for many UK theatre companies, including Leicester Curve, Tara Arts, Shakespeare’s Globe, and Soho Theatre.  

Tanika Gupta 

Over the past 25 years, Tanika Gupta has written over 25 stage plays that have been produced in major theatres across the UK and has written extensively for BBC Radio drama.

In 2008, Tanika was awarded an MBE for Services to Drama, and in 2016, she was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.

Tanika has an honorary doctorate in the Arts from Chichester University and is an Honorary Fellow at Rose Bruford College and Central School of Speech and Drama.

She won the James Tait Black award in 2018 for her play "Lions and Tigers". 

Gupta has written for radio, film, television and theatre. Some of her theatre credits include "A Doll's House "(Lyric Hammersmith), "Red Dust Road – adaptation of Jackie Kay's memoir" (NT Scotland), "Lions and Tigers" and "Midsummer Night's Dream" (Globe Theatre - dramaturg).
