Rat Race

In brief

Date - 19 August 2026

Venue - Venue NW

Festival - Edinburgh International Book Festival

About the event

DCI Alison McCoist is Glasgow’s most unpopular detective, and the thrillers starring her are the filthiest, funniest crime novels in Scotland.

Callum McSorley's latest novel Rat Race closes the MacIlvanney Prize-winning trilogy as McCoist chases a drug-dealer-turned-marathon-runner through a tangle of gangsters and bent cops. A new star of crime discusses violence and humour, urban Scotland, and ending the series with an absolute belter. Chaired by Kim Sherwood (Creative Writing).

How to attend

This event is part of the Edinburgh International Book Festival. It is costed, and tickets are available through the Book Festival website.

Are you interested in English Literature at Edinburgh?

We offer a wide range of undergraduate programmes, taught masters, and research degrees, including a Masters by Research and a PhD. As an undergraduate, you will read works of literature written in English from around the world, and encounter a range of ideas about the nature and purpose of literary study.

Our courses explore the relationship between literary texts and the construction of national, international and imperial cultures. Working with colleagues in LLC and across the wider University, we are able to support postgraduate research which crosses boundaries between languages and disciplines.
