About the performers Joy Dunlop Joy Dunlop is popular television and radio broadcaster who is involved with a wide range of music, current affairs and light entertainment programmes. With her trademark poise and depth of knowledge, Joy’s warmth and enthusiasm have made her increasing in-demand in television and radio broadcasts alike; from presenting the weather on both BBC Scotland & BBC Alba, to fronting SpeakGaelic; a wide-ranging, multi-faceted learning brand, offering the most comprehensive approach to learning Scottish Gaelic in a generation. She is the presenter of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition and often hosts well known music programme Travelling Folk. She is also a multi-award winning Gaelic singer, winning both the coveted Royal National Mòd Gold Medal and the Oban Times Gold Medal and releasing multiple highly acclaimed albums. The latest, Caoir, was recently launched to great success, being described as “exceptional". Her music has led her all over the world; from major Celtic festivals, to touring the UK, Europe, Canada, USA, Japan and New Zealand. She also conducts the Alba Choir, Scotland’s first and only Eurovision entry, who participated in the 2019 Eurovision Choir of the Year finals in Gothenburg, Sweden. Màiri Callan Màiri Callan is originally from Annathill in Lanarkshire with strong North Uist connections. Her musical experiences straddle the traditional and classical genres, having grown up in a home filled with traditional Gaelic song and having studied both traditional and classical lever harp with Savourna Stevenson. Màiri won the prestigious An Comunn Gàidhealach Gold Medal in Inverness in 2021 under the tutelage of Gaelic singer Kenna Campbell and voice coach Paul Keohone. She has performed on voice and lever harp on two episodes of BBC Alba’s spiritual music programme Alleluia and recently performed at the Celtic Connections concert celebrating the publication of Gun Sireadh, Gun Iarraidh, the new edition of Frances Tolmie's Gaelic song collection edited by Kenna Campbell and Ainsley Hamill (available from Acair). Màiri is a fourth-year music student at Edinburgh University, focusing on the lever harp clàrsach. She is a keen composer and arranger. How to attend The event is free and everyone is welcome.
