Our diverse, equal, inclusive and supportive community

A diverse, equal and inclusive community - which draws together people of all backgrounds, experiences, ages and abilities - is fundamental to who we are as a School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.

As a first priority, we are committed to creating and sustaining an all-inclusive and supportive environment in which all members of our community are treated equally, fairly and with the utmost dignity and respect.

Across our learning and teaching community of students and staff, we have the privilege of bringing together people from over 50 countries and six continents, all possessing an inspirational range of perspectives, experiences, knowledge and understanding.

To ensure that our School is as inclusive and supportive as possible for everyone, we have a People and Equalities Committee.

A message from our People and Equalities Director

I am delighted to serve as the Director of People and Equalities in LLC.

In the coming years, you will see various EDI initiatives rolling out at the School, College and University levels, I look forward to your participation and views on these, including any ideas for enhancing equality, diversity, and inclusivity in LLC and beyond.

One of the greatest benefits of studying at Edinburgh is the constant and unfaltering support of the professors and staff. With such a diverse international community, students are given specific and individual attention for issues ranging from educational difficulties to any personal issues one might come across. The scope of backgrounds of students and staff alike means that everyone feels welcome and opens doors to life-changing perspectives and invaluable relationships. Not a day goes by without another chance to pursue interests and broaden our horizons.
