About the series

Celtic and Scottish Studies is delighted to host a series of interdisciplinary events exploring the formation, development, and perception of medieval Scotland in terms of the constituent linguistic, literary, and material cultures – Brythonic, Pictish, Gaelic, Norse, Scots, and English – from which Scotland emerges.

Attendance is welcome both in person or online.

About the speakers

Dr Nicholas Evans, a Research Fellow in the Department of Archaeology, University of Aberdeen, is an historian of early medieval Scotland and Ireland. His most recent publication is 'Picts: Scourge of Rome, Rulers of the North' (Birlinn, 2022) with Professor Gordon Noble.

Dr Kate Ash-Irisarri is a Lecturer in Late Medieval Scottish & English Literature at the University of Edinburgh. Her research interests centre on medieval faculty psychology and the history of emotions. Her monograph, 'Rewriting the Past in Scottish Literature, 1350-1550', is due out with Boydell in Spring 2025.
