Celtic and Scottish Studies Seminar Series: Holiday Handsel

In brief

Introduction - Fraser Fifield (Traditional Artist in Residence, University of Edinburgh)

Venue - Online on Zoom

About the event

'Handsel' is a Scots word for a gift at the beginning of an undertaking or an enterprise or a period of time.

It is a very appropriate description of a musical prelude to the upcoming holiday break and an anticipation of the new year and the second semester in our academic year. It also serves as a fine introduction to a very welcome new member of our community,Fraser Fifield. Fraser is our new new Traditional Artist in Residence, and he will present our Holiday Handsel.

Fraser is a seasoned musician and composer, with eight solo albums to his credit. He plays bagpipe, saxophone and low whistle, and his forte lies in creating new work informed by traditions from Scotland and from cultures beyond our shores.
