Celtic and Scottish Studies Seminar Series: Morag Grant In brief Speaker - Dr Morag Grant (University of Edinburgh) Title - Auld Lang Syne: A Song and its Culture About the seminar How did an eighteenth-century Scots song become a global phenomenon – and what does this tell us about songs, singing, and human musicality more generally? In her new book, "Auld Lang Syne: A Song and its Culture", Morag traces the history of Burns’ version of Auld Lang Syne and the traditions which emerged around it: of singing it at parting, of singing it with linked arms, and of singing it at New Year. In the seminar, she will reflect on what the book tells us about the song’s Scottish roots and international appeal and also on the experience of writing and publishing it. How to register All seminars take place fortnightly on Fridays between 13.15 and 14.00. Please contact Dr Neill Martin to receive a Zoom invitation and password.
