About the event

This week, our colleague Dr Peadar Ó Muircheartaigh will deliver a seminar that takes us into the intersection of the worlds of Gaelic and Nordic antiquarianism in the 18th century.

The talk will focus on Icelandic-Danish antiquarian Grímur Thorkelin, who was commissioned by the King of Denmark to collect and investigate Danish antiquities in Britain and Ireland in the period 1786-1791. His brief trip to Dublin, however, brought him into the realm of Gaelic antiquities and resulted in the preservation of a number of important Irish manuscripts.

How to join

Joining a seminar is free, and everyone is welcome. No booking is required.

All seminars take place online fortnightly on Fridays from 13.00 to 14.00.  Please contact Dr Neill Martin to be added to the mailing list for an invitation, link and passcode.
