About the event

For 250 years, dedicated Gaelic churches and chapels served the Gaelic-speaking population of Glasgow. In 2021, St Columba Gaelic Church, the last of these, closed its doors, having long played an important social and cultural role for Gaels in the city.

Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork conducted during Christopher's PhD research funded by the Centre for Doctoral Training in Celtic Languages, the seminar will focus on the sociolinguistic character of the church in its latter months and the circumstances and consequences of its closure.

How to join

Joining a seminar is free, and everyone is welcome. No booking is required.

All seminars take place online fortnightly on Fridays from 13.00 to 14.00.  Please contact Dr Neill Martin to be added to the mailing list for an invitation, link and passcode.
