About the event

Ruaraidh Erskine of Mar's Gaelic magazines appeared from the 1900s to the 1930s. They included a range of varied contents on subjects from contemporary issues at home and internationally to the work of folklore collectors of earlier periods in Scotland and other Celtic lands.

About the speaker

Dr Poncarová is a specialist in modern Scottish Gaelic literature. Her research interests include:

  • Twentieth-century Scottish Gaelic literature (Derick Thomson; Tormod Caimbeul; Sorley MacLean; Ruaraidh Erskine of Mar)
  • Intersections between Scottish nationalism and the Gaelic revival
  • Scottish magazines and periodical press
  • Highland Clearances in Scottish literature and culture
  • Gaelic and translation
  • Ossian controversy
  • Ghost story in the British Isles

Joining a seminar is free, and everyone is welcome. No booking is required.
