Drawing together contributions on theory, methodology and practice from translators, scholars and practitioners working in the creative and performing arts, this book explores how contemporary, experiential acts of interpretation, mediation and negotiation can serve to bridge social and cultural discontinuities across time and space. These range from ancestral past to digital present, from rural to urban environments across the globe.Experiential translation applies a transdisciplinary lens to problematise views of translation and untranslatability traditionally bound by structuralist frames of reference and the reserve of professional linguistic translation. Ask us for a link to join the seminar online About the speakersKaren Bennett has an MA and PhD in Translation Studies, and teaches Translation at Nova University, Lisbon, where she is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Master’s programme in Translation.Ludivine Bouton-Kelly is Associate professor in English and Translation Studies at the University of Angers. Her research focuses on bilingual and/or multilingual writing and translation. Harriet Carter is a UK-based artist researcher. Harriet has exhibited internationally and teaches Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire.Riku Haapaniemi is a doctoral researcher at Tampere University, Finland. His research concentrates on the concept of materiality in translation studies, its theoretical and practical applications, and its cross-disciplinary implications.Madeleine Campbell is a lecturer in the Institute for Language Education at Edinburgh University. Her transdisciplinary research spans arts-informed language education, experiential translation and creativity.Ricarda Vidal is Senior Lecturer at King’s College London and Principal Investigator of the AHRC-funded Experiential Translation Network. As researcher, text-maker and curator, she explores the multimodal aspects of communication across perceived cultural and/or linguistic divides.About the seminar seriesEach semester, we welcome a fantastic range of guest speakers and colleagues to present a seminar on their work in translation.Our seminar series is run collaboratively by staff and postgraduate students, enabling our early career researchers to build networks and experience.Entry is free and no booking is required.
