Translation Studies Research Seminar Series: Surviving Translation In brief Date - 19 October 2023 Venue - Screening Room G.04, 50 George Square Film - Surviving Translation (dir. Ling Lee, 2023) Format - Film screening followed by a Q&A About the event Rejeen Musa was working as a subtitler on 'Surviving Translation' when the words she was translating began to unlock painful memories from her own past. As a female Kurdish migrant and a translator, Rejeen became the lens through which the film explores the trauma and life-altering consequences of mistranslation. Raw testimony, poetic imagery, and academic research coalesce in this unique meditation on translation, isolation, and the meaning of 'home'. After the screening, Charlotte Bosseaux, the researcher whose research inspired the film, English-French subtitler and film co-producer, as well as Mark Bradshaw, subtitling consultant (French and Spanish - English, SDH) at Screen Language will take part in a Q&A focusing on ethical translation in the documentary context.
