About the event

We are pleased to welcome Paul Freedman (Yale University, Chester D. Tripp Professor of History), Josep M. Muñoz (editor and historian), and Elisenda Casañas Adam (University of Edinburgh, Lecturer in Public Law and Human Rights and Edinburgh Centre for Constitutional Law Associate Director) to the University of Edinburgh to discuss 'Notícia de Catalunya | We, the Catalans' (1954), by Jaume Vicens Vives.

This is the first volume of the 'Catalan Classics of Political Thought' collection, which brings together the thought and ideas that have defined Catalonia throughout the centuries, consolidating its intellectual memory and projecting it towards the future and towards the world. The volume itself explains the historical trajectory of Catalonia and its impact on political culture.

Each volume of the collection, which will have Catalan and English versions, will include an introductory study and a contextual study by national and international specialists, who will situate the selected works within Western political thought. In the case of 'Notícia de Catalunya | We, the Catalans' these are historians Paul Freedman and Josep M. Muñoz. The translation is by Mary Ann Newman. The selection of texts will span from the Late Middle Ages to 1975, and will be progressively expanded according to priorities established by a coordinating commission and a scientific committee.

This event will be delivered in English.
