Prior to the establishment of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) in 1980, students at the University of Edinburgh working on topics concerning Islam and the Middle East could be formally enrolled in one of a number of departments and faculties (chiefly Arts, Divinity and Law). In this section, we list relevant PhDs from the Faculty of Arts (unless otherwise noted) over the period 1921-1980.

1981-present day

Since the establishment of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) at the University of Edinburgh in 1980, we have been graduating PhD students across a wide variety of topics. In this section, we list all IMES PhDs over the period 1981-2022.
