About the speaker

Dr Mike Carr is a Senior Lecturer in Late Medieval History at the University of Edinburgh within the School of History, Classics and Archaeology. His research focuses mainly on the Mediterranean, c.1000-1500, especially the interactions between Byzantium, the Islamic world and the Latin West. His current work is a culmination of his interests in the papacy, trade and the maritime history of the medieval Mediterranean.
