About the speaker

Dr Ula Zeir is a Content Specialist in Arabic Language and Gulf History at the British Library. Before this, she completed a PhD at the University of Edinburgh within the department of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies. Her thesis was titled 'The Resettlement of the Syrian Ismaʿilis in Salamiyya in the mid-Nineteenth-Century Ottoman Syria', and she made extensive use of Ottoman archival materials throughout her studies.
