About the speaker Dr Salam Rassi completed a PhD in Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford, then went on to become a Mellon Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the American University of Beirut. He has also worked as a cataloguer of Syriac and Arabic manuscripts at the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library and was a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Oxford. Salam's main area of research is Christian-Muslim interactions across theology, philosophy, and literature. He primarily researches the religious, intellectual, and social history of medieval Christian communities in Muslim-ruled lands. His interests cover a broad range of topics within the study of Christian-Muslim relations. These include historical theology, philosophy, history of science, and literature. He also works extensively with Arabic and Syriac manuscripts, since many of the works he studies have yet to receive modern editions and translations. About the seminar series Each semester, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) welcomes a fantastic range of guest speakers, PhD students and colleagues from across the University to present a seminar on their research. This semester, the series focuses on the many different people, disciplines and Schools engaged in research in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh, and on their work in progress.
