About the speaker

Dr Glaire Anderson is a specialist in Islamic art and history during the caliphal period (c.650-1250) and an advocate for the power of Islamic visual culture to reveal a more diverse and interconnected global history. Her aim is to make Islamic art and history accessible to all through Education, Games, and GLAM (galleries, libraries, archives, and museums) sectors.  

Glaire's current research focuses on diversifying gaming and digital cultural heritage, and she has a longstanding interest in digital art history. She founded and leads the Digital Lab for Islamic Visual Culture & Collections to explore new technologies to create immersive experiences of medieval Islamic spaces and objects.

About the seminar series

Each semester, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (IMES) welcomes a fantastic range of guest speakers, PhD students and colleagues from across the University to present an evening seminar on their research.

This semester, the series focuses on the many different people, disciplines and Schools engaged in research in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Edinburgh, and on their work in progress.
