The Lynda Myles Project launch event

In brief

Date - 19 August 2023

Venue - Everyman Cinema

Festival - Edinburgh International Film Festival (Hosted by Edinburgh International Festival)

About the event

Lynda Myles is a central force of film culture in Scotland and abroad. From reinvigorating The University of Edinburgh’s Film Society as a Philosophy student, to the radical acts of care and curation she enacted as Festival Director of Edinburgh International Film Festival 1973-1980, her ethos of collaboration, provocation and rigorous eclecticism continue to inspire.

The Lynda Myles Project is a wildly celebratory act of cinephile activism, gathering scholars, filmmakers and writers to recognise the significance of Myles’ contributions, including the films that inspired her, those she has gone on to produce, and the generations of filmmakers she has taught. This discussion will ask: how might we rebuild Edinburgh’s film culture, reimagining ideas and aesthetics, with Myles in mind?
