En la intersección entre filosofía, literatura, estudios culturales y exílicos, la razón poética continúa siendo una de las propuestas más intrigantes y prometedoras de la historia intelectual del siglo XX. Desarrollada por María Zambrano (1904-1991) como un intento de superar las aporías de la razón discursiva, los académicos continúan debatiendo si pertenece al campo de la filosofía, la poesía, el misticismo o, si por el contrario, constituye una forma de conocimiento o incluso una metodología. De manera que cabe preguntarnos ¿qué es la razón poética? Abordar esta pregunta, así como también cuestionar la posición de la razón poética respecto a la filosofía occidental será el propósito de esta charla.

Standing at the intersection between philosophy, literature, cultural studies and exilic studies, poetic reason remains one of the most intriguing and promising proposals in twentieth century intellectual history. Developed by María Zambrano (1904-1991) as an attempt to overcome the short-comings of discursive reason, scholars continue to debate whether poetic reason belongs to the field of philosophy, poetry, mysticism or whether, rather than that, it constitutes a form of knowledge or even a methodology. So what is poetic reason? Addressing this question, while also reframing the position of poetic reason with regards to Western philosophy will be the purpose of this paper.

Dr Beatriz Caballero Rodríguez is a Senior lecturer at the University of Strathclyde. Her area of specialization is Spanish 20th century Intellectual History, particularly in the areas of memory, trauma, exile and political philosophy. Her publications include two monographs 'Against Instrumental Reason: Neo-Marxism and Spirituality in the Thought of J.L.L. Aranguren and J. Aguirre' (Anagnórisis, 2013) and, most recently, 'María Zambrano: A Life of Poetic Reason and Political Commitment' (WUP, 2017).
