About the event

The School of Literatures, Language and Cultures (LLC) in collaboration with the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) are delighted to welcome Jordi Larios and Xavier Mas Craviotto, two award-winning Catalan authors, for an afternoon of poetry readings.

This event will include readings in Catalan by the poets, as well as readings in English by some students from LLC's Department of European Languages and Cultures. It will be chaired by Dr Sergi Mainer (University of Edinburgh), and will feature a Q&A.

About the authors

Jordi Larios was born in the town of Palafrugell, Catalonia. He holds a BA and a PhD in Catalan Philology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is currently a Professor at the University of St Andrews. He is the author of four poetry collections: Home sol (1984), El cop de la destral (2006), Rendezvous (2013), and En vespres grocs (2020). Rendezvous was awarded the Cavall Verd Poetry Award in 2014. In 2023, Fum d'Estampa Press published On Yellow Evenings, an anthology of one hundred poems (in a Catalan-English bilingual edition), translated by Ronald Puppo, and selected from Jordi's previous collections.

Xavier Mas was born in Navàs, Catalonia. He teaches Catalan Language and Culture at the University of Bristol. He is the author of two novels: La mort lenta (2019) and La pell del món (2023); and three poetry collections: Renills de cavall negre (2019), La gran nàusea (2021) and La llum subterrània (2023). He has been awarded numerous literary prizes such as the prestigious Documenta Prize (2018) and Ausiàs March Prize (2022).
