A yearly publication of lively and open discussion on themes pertinent to German Studies. Established, commissioned, and edited by colleagues in German at the University of Edinburgh, the Edinburgh German Yearbook ran for 15 volumes published between 2007 and 2022. The Yearbook encouraged and shared lively and open discussion of themes pertinent to German Studies, viewed from all angles but with particular interest in problems arising out of politics and history. Over the years, it explored a wide range of timely topics such as the cultural legacy of National Socialism and the GDR, Brecht, gender, ethics, disability, melancholy, archive and memory, and love. Its founding editor was Sarah Colvin, then Eudo Mason Chair of German at the University of Edinburgh, now Schröder Professor of German at the University of Cambridge. It was published by Boydell & Brewer / Camden House, a world-leading publisher of academic books on German literature and culture, film and history. Lecturers in German at Edinburgh choose the theme of each issue and took turns as editors, normally teamed up with a co-editor from another institution. They also regularly contributed to volumes edited by colleagues. Edinburgh German Yearbook 15 Tracing German Visions of Eastern Europe in the Twentieth Century.
