Dr Wassim Mroue

Wassim Mroue is an Associate Fellow at the Alwaleed Centre with a focus on multi-sectarian societies in the Middle East.

Dr. Mroue completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Alwaleed Centre and the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH). Before that, he earned a PhD in politics from the University of Edinburgh. 

Dr. Mroue studies intra-communal political dynamics in multi-sectarian societies, with a focus on Lebanon’s Shia Muslim Hezbollah and the Amal Movement. His research interests are multidisciplinary, covering political identity dynamics, peace and conflict studies, political Islam and modern Middle Eastern history. Dr. Mroue is the managing editor of Mediterranean Politics academic journal. Prior to starting his PhD, he was the national editor of Lebanon’s The Daily Star newspaper.
