About this event
Over a career spanning more than two decades, Chris McCaleb has become one of the industry’s most respected and in-demand film editors.
From his early work as assistant on Michael Mann projects such as Collateral (2004) and Miami Vice (2006) to his recent critically-acclaimed work as editor on Breaking Bad (2008 – 2013) and Better Call Saul (2015 – 2022), Chris has proved a master at constructing pitch-perfect scenes, whether it’s blood-pumping, high-stakes action or more intimate, quieter moments where an exchange of glances can reveal multitudes.
In this illustrated talk, Chris will discuss his background, artistic influences and working methods before giving us rare insight into the editing of a key sequence from the recent final season of Better Call Saul.
About the series
Edinburgh Screen Conversations launched in 2020 with Jonathan Melville and Carol Morley. Hosted by Film Studies at the University of Edinburgh, the series features a fantastic range of writers, directors and other figures from the screen industries talking to us about their work.
