Edinburgh Film Seminar: Professor J.E. Smyth

About the seminar

By Professor J.E. Smyth...

In this interactive seminar, Prof. Smyth will discuss her research into Hollywood’s Golden Age and, in particular, the extraordinary career of screenwriter Mary McCall (1904 – 1986). As well as working for many of the major studios, McCall was also the first woman president of the Writers Guild of America.

In preparation for the seminar, please read Prof. Smyth’s 2016 article ‘A Woman at the Center of Hollywood's Wars: Screenwriter Mary C. McCall Jr’ in Cinéaste (Summer 2016), pp.18-23. The article is available through DiscoverEd or JStor.

This event will take place via Zoom. Once you have registered through Eventbrite, you will be emailed a link on the day of the event.
