About the event
This event will be lively, in-depth discussion of Pamela Hutchinson’s career. It will explore her work in print journalism, broadcasting and curating as well as her riveting new book on the Powell and Pressburger classic, 'The Red Shoes', a volume which Sight & Sound recently described as ‘[written] with an expert’s confidence and a fan’s enthusiasm’.
Hutchinson joins us remotely to discuss her work and ideas in conversation with Dr Pasquale Iannone.

About the speaker
One of the most vital, distinctive voices in contemporary film criticism, Pamela Hutchinson’s career includes over a decade working at The Guardian (2004–2016) as well as establishing Silent London, the hugely popular and influential blog on early cinema (2010-). Her many publications include an edited collection and two monographs, the most recent of which takes a fresh look at The Red Shoes (1948).

Exploring crucial concepts in the development of film theory and film-philosophy, one one-year taught Masters programme (MSc) centres on the criticism, analysis and interpretation of auteur cinema, with a focus on European and American film.
We also supervise PhD research in film theory, film-philosophy, various national cinemas, the work of individual filmmakers, and cinema in relation to other art forms.
