Join us for an in-person seminar by Professor Lucy Bolton (Queen Mary University of London) on the phenomenology of star biopics, examined via an analysis of the film Seberg (2019), in which Kristen Stewart portrays the actress Jean Seberg.

An in-person seminar by Dr MaoHui Deng (University of Manchester) on how dementia-friendly screenings in the UK are both caring cinema, and a form of colonial exhibition practice.

An in-person seminar by Dr Miranda Anderson (University of Edinburgh) on 'fission-fusion' cognition, our understanding of what constitutes minds and selves, and how these dynamics play out in both the making of films and through film characters and what they represent.

An in-person seminar by Professor Charlie Keil (University of Toronto) examining the label of 'transitional' when applied to the era of silent American cinema, and how it has persisted as a distinct category.

Are you interested in studying film at Edinburgh?

Exploring crucial concepts in the development of film theory and film-philosophy, one one-year taught Masters programme (MSc) centres on the criticism, analysis and interpretation of auteur cinema, with a focus on European and American film.

We also supervise PhD research in film theory, film-philosophy, various national cinemas, the work of individual filmmakers, and cinema in relation to other art forms.
