The Provocateurs: Memory management / Bridget Jones meets the existentialists

In brief

Date - 11 August 2026

Venue - Stand 4, Stand Comedy Club

Festival - Edinburgh Festival Fringe

About the event

What can Bridget Jones's Diary teach us about existentialism? Dr David Sorfa (University of Edinburgh, Film Studies) explores how popular films can provide philosophical insights and discusses freedom, anxiety, the impossibility of finding love and the importance of blue soup.

Neurobiologist John Girgis (University of Edinburgh) puts brains under microscopes to see memories being created. What does that look like? How should we relate to our memories? Are we only the total sum of what we can remember?

How to attend
