Hollywood to Nazi Germany, Garbo to Goebbels – The Director is Daniel Kehlmann’s imaginative take on filmmaker G W Pabst and the heady entanglement of art, politics, and power at the peak of the Nazi regime.

Exploring complicity and moral compromise, the rise and fall of German cinema, and the politics and propaganda of the silver screen, don’t miss International Booker Prize-shortlisted Kehlmann discussing his controversial, magnificent book, and his storied career with Chair Pasquale Iannone (Film Studies).

Exploring crucial concepts in the development of film theory and film-philosophy, one one-year taught Masters programme (MSc) centres on the criticism, analysis and interpretation of auteur cinema, with a focus on European and American film.

We also supervise PhD research in film theory, film-philosophy, various national cinemas, the work of individual filmmakers, and cinema in relation to other art forms.
