Now is a strategic moment to build capacity in Nordic area studies. Recent years have seen a major growth in public interest in the Nordic countries and their cultures. With the ever closer alignment of Scottish social and political debate towards our northern neighbours, there is now critical demand for a central hub to coordinate research, knowledge exchange and cultural dialogue in this field. Encouraging mobility in both directions between Scotland and the Nordic countries, while providing a base in Edinburgh for visiting scholars, students and cultural practitioners.
