Ruptures: Screening and Q&A In brief Guest speaker - Gabriel Bonammy (University of St Andrews) Organiser - Edouard Notte (University of Edinburgh) Book your free ticket on Eventbrite About the event We are delighted to invite you to a screening of Ruptures, winner of the Coup de Coeur du Jury award at the Cannes International Ecological and Social Film Festival 2021. Directed by Arthur Gosset and with the help of Hélène Cloitre, the documentary aims to share what more and more young people from the Grandes Écoles, and all over France, feel in the face of ecological and social emergency. This screening will be followed by a Q&A with student Gabriel Bonammy, who has translated the documentary from French into English, and has been working closely with director Arthur Gosset to organise nearly 200 screenings for more than 25,000 students across Europe since the documentary's release. The event is co-organised with Institut Français Écosse in Edinburgh, and the film will be shown in French with English subtitles. About Ruptures Ruptures is the story of a year that changed the lives of a group of young people from the Grandes Ecoles, Aurélie, Maxime, Hélène, Emma and Romain. They all had their destiny mapped out for them: dream job, company car, and a good salary. But all of them, in the space of a year, broke with that path. This documentary follows them through their sometimes difficult decisions, their often painful breaks and their courageous choice to live in accordance with their convictions, whatever the cost. Far from being anecdotal, this documentary explores a fundamental movement. Since 2019, tens of thousands of students have been questioning a system in which they no longer see themselves: unbridled capitalism and companies considered too polluting. About the guest speaker Raised in both France and the UK, Gabriel Bonammy is currently studying Economics and Geography at the University of St Andrews. He discovered Ruptures fortuitously and immediately thought that sharing its generational message with UK university students was self-evident. Gabriel is particularly interested in sustainability issues and their intersection with contemporary economic structures. In this context, part of his work is related to institutional sustainability, namely working on the University of St Andrews’ strategy for carbon neutrality.
