Audience discussion on The Father
The two most important points from Friday's discussion were that the adapted script contained a cohesive version of the original plot and the audience was able to follow the adapted story; that the audience was able to relate to the characters despite the anachronism of the details.
A useful comment was made about a key moment in the original when the daughter reprimands the father for throwing a lamp at her mother, and says that if he can do that he can't be her father.
On reflection, incorporating this into our production, possibly with the use of digital technology such as an email or a voicemail message would have benefited by moderating the journey the father took towards hysteria, which, in half an hour was very fast.
