Interreligious Encounters & Creative Practice is an interdisciplinary event that focuses on the role of creative practice in our understandings of Religious Encounters of different faiths and acts of coexistence. Open to both academic audiences and wider communities contributors will reflect on the potentialities of creative mediums, the ways in which they might interrogate mainstream models and imaginaries of religious difference, and offer new, alternative insights on the lived realities of religious interaction in sacred and contested spaces.

This event is organised by the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at Newcastle University, Religions for Peace UK and The University of Edinburgh (Social Anthropology & Alwaleed Centre) and seeks to strengthen bridges between Architecture, Social Anthropology, Art, Film, Performance arts,Cultural landscape studies, and other disciplines. It builds on an initiative developed at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at Newcastle University (SAPL), in close collaboration with Religions for Peace UK as part of the broader project Religious Coexistence: embodied Interactions in Sacred Sites and Faith Practices, which explores how sacred spaces and creative practice shape interreligious encounter. The first symposium in this initiative was held at Newcastle University in January 2025.
