FutureMED Postgraduate Exchange

The Alwaleed Centre at the University of Edinburgh and Leiden University's International Studies programme invite current master’s students in Edinburgh and Leiden to apply for their 2025 FutureMED Postgraduate Exchange.

FutureMED

Overview

This unique initiative offers an opportunity for students to spend four days in a partner institution (either Edinburgh or Leiden) in March/April 2025 to gain new perspectives on the study of the global Mediterranean region and its relationship to the wider Muslim world. Beside auditing relevant courses, students will participate in focus groups with local community organisations with links to the region, and contribute to the writing-up of a policy brief on the (re)construction of the global Mediterranean region and its diverse communities. Students will also participate in a one-day academic workshop in the Hague where they will have the opportunity to meet researchers and policy-makers working on, and in, the region.

All travel, accommodation and visa costs will be covered.

How to Apply

This opportunity is open to all students on the University of Edinburgh’s Globalised Muslim Word MSc programme and Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies MSc programme. To apply, please submit a two-page CV along with a one-page cover letter outlining your motivations for joining the initiative and the experience you would bring to it.

Applications should be sent via email to: thealwaleedcentre@ed.ac.uk by Friday 10 January 2025.

Please note, this is a small pilot project and we can therefore only accept three students from Edinburgh in 2025.
