Dr Shadaab Rahemtulla is a Senior Lecturer in Islamic Studies at the School of Divinity and a Senior Associate Fellow at the Alwaleed Centre, University of Edinburgh. He also serves as the Co-Chair of the Staff BAME (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) Network and was previously the Director of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at the School of Divinity, winning the CAHSS Advancing Inclusion Award in 2022. Shadaab is the author of 'Qur'an of the Oppressed: Liberation Theology and Gender Justice in Islam' (2018) and the editor of 'The Future of Islamic Liberation Theology' (2023). His current book project is on Islam and the Left. Shadaab received his doctorate in Islamic thought from the University of Oxford in 2013.
