About us

About us

Welcome to the Centre de recherches francophones belges.

Based in European Languages and Cultures at the University of Edinburgh, we have been promoting francophone Belgian studies in the UK for almost 30 years.

We support the teaching of francophone Belgian literature on university courses, publish books and articles, and organise a range of events for students and the wider public, with invited speakers from the UK, Belgium and beyond.

In 2011, our Co-Director Dr Susan Bainbrigge was awarded the Prix du rayonnment des lettres belges à l’étranger by the Belgian Ministry for Culture (Communauté française) in recognition of her research and teaching in the field of Belgian literature and culture.

For many years we have been partnering with Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI) to bring Francophone Belgian culture to Edinburgh, typically as part of the Festival Fringe and in collaboration with the Institut Français d’Écosse, Edinburgh Filmhouse and other partners.
