By bridging linguistic and cultural analysis, this talk offers insights into the complex realities of motherhood in modern Korean society.About the speakerProfessor Jieun Kiaer is the Young Bin Min-KF Professor of Korean Linguistics at the University of Oxford.Her research examines the dynamic relationship between language, culture, and society, with a particular focus on Korean linguistics and the Korean Wave (Hallyu).Her notable publications include 'The Sounds of Korean' (2012), 'The Routledge Course in Korean Translation' (2018), 'Korean Literature Through the Korean Wave' (2019), 'A Linguistic Image of Womanhood in South Korea' (2022), and 'The Language of Hallyu: More than Polite' (2023).About the Distinguished Lecture seriesEach year, the Scottish Centre for Korean Studies welcomes a fantastic range of guest speakers to give a free public lecture.
