Scottish Centre for Korean Studies Seminar: Writing your first book

In brief

Guest - Beatriz Lopez (Edinburgh University Press)

Venue - Project Room 1.06, 50 George Square

Discussant - Professor Natascha Gentz (Chair of Chinese Studies, University of Edinburgh)

About the event

In this presentation, Beatriz Lopez (Commissioning Editor for Politics at Edinburgh University Press) will give you some tips intended to make the task of turning a dissertation into a monograph a little more manageable.

She will also offer valuable advice on choosing the right book publisher and writing your book proposal, as well as the review and publishing processes. She will then introduce the Edinburgh East Asian Studies series (edited by Natascha Gentz, Urs Matthias Zachmann and David Der-wei Wang) and the Edinburgh Studies in East Asian Film series (edited by Margaret Hillenbrand), both published by Edinburgh University Press.

Professor Natascha Gentz will offer a brief introduction to publishing in Asian Studies, followed by discussion of the Edinburgh East Asian Studies series and the Modern Chinese Literature and Culture journal. She will provide a brief overview of the series editor role and the benefits of publishing as part of a book series for early career researchers.

Their presentations will be followed by a Q&A and a practical exercise on book proposal writing.
