About the event

We are delighted to welcome Dr Hwa-Jin Song of Durham Univeristy to discuss the contribution of village capacity to the establishment and operation of village enterprises through the case of a rural village in Korea in the 1960s and 1970s.

About the speaker

Dr Hwa-Jin Song is a visiting fellow at Durham University. She received her PhD in Sociology from the Graduate School, Academy of Korean Studies in 2021.

Her doctoral thesis started in rural villages in Korea in the 1960s and 1970s, and she expands her research interests to modern urban areas. She was also active in her local community, organizing small group activities for young parents and their children supported by the local district.

About the Distinguished Lecture series

Each year, the Scottish Centre for Korean Studies welcomes a fantastic range of guest speakers to give a free public lecture. They cover a range of topics, from literature and poetry to international relations.

Often, speakers will present on recent publications, and audiences have the opportunity to participate in question and answer sessions after presentations.
