About the event

This conversation with Korean Ambassador to the UK, His Excellency Mr. Yeocheol Yoon, will delve into the details of Korea's Foreign Policy and the country's relationship with the United Kingdom.

It will be chaired by Sir Peter Mathieson, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Edinburgh.

About the speaker

Ambassador Yoon joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in January 1985, and took on the role of Director of Protocol in 2002 and as Director of North American Affairs in 2004.

His postings abroad include the Embassies to the United States and to Cote d’Ivoire, the Mission to the UN as well as the UN Secretariat with Secretary General Ban Ki-moon as his Special Assistant and his Chief of Protocol. Ambassador Yoon also served as Deputy Minister for Protocol at MOFA and Protocol Secretary to the President of Korea.

He was posted to the Arab Republic of Egypt as Ambassador in 2018. Most recently, he was appointed in 2022 as the ROK Ambassador to the Court of St. James and arrived in London on October 22nd.

Ambassador Yoon graduated from Seoul National University with BA in English Literature with Economics as a second major (1985), studied for MPP at SNU Graduate School (1986-88) and went to Dartmouth College and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in the United States for his MA (May, 1990).
