Come along to hear Esther discuss her translation process, as well as all about the book that won her a PEN Translates award. Read more on Typewronger's website About the speaker Esther Tyldesley has a BA in Chinese Studies from Cambridge and an MA in Applied Translation Studies (Chinese) from Leeds. She spent four years in Guizhou Province, where she worked at a rural teachers' college for Voluntary Service Overseas, and she still has strong links with that part of China. Before coming to Edinburgh Esther worked as a translator, and her work includes 'The Good Women of China', 'Sky Burial' and 'China Witness', all by Xinran; 'Confucius from the Heart' by Yu Dan; and 'Little Aunt Crane' by Yan Geling. She works in both Asian Studies and Translation Studies, and has been teaching Chinese language and Chinese-English translation at Edinburgh University since 2004. [Liang Hong] draws the reader in with vivid characters and memorable situations... she has a wicked sense of irony and a gift for dialogue.
