Multilingualism in Research

About the event

To mark the European Day of Languages, this round-table discussion explores questions concerning the dominance of the English language in scholarly publication.

Chaired by Katerina Stergiopoulou, much of whose work tackles questions of translation, the event features reflections how a project of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) on multilingualism and language biases in research assessment is seeking to promote an academic culture that values all languages – offered by Carlos Soler Montes, who is involved in this work.

It also features a discussion of the experience of publishing as well as doing research in a multilingual way offered by Julius Ruiz, whose work on Spanish history has often been published in Spanish before an English-language version appears.
